An enlargement thyroid gland, usually evident as a pronounced swelling in the neck. The enlargement may be associated with hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism or normal levels of thyroid function. Simple goiter occurs due to iodine deficiency. The iodine is essential mineral like sodium, potassium, calcium, iron etc.
The thyroid gland in our body is lying in the front of neck. It traps the iodine from our daily diet and synthesizes two hormones T3 and T4. These hormones maintain the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) in our body. Thyroid gland when does not receive the adequate amount of iodine in diet. It works rapidly. In the result of this it becomes more and more larger, consequently it raises by weight from 25 grams to 300-400 grams and above, this condition is called goiter.
